Islamic Diet and Culture

Halal food prepared at the Islamic diet and culture training eventCompanies in the Dorset hospitality sector received a taste of diet and culture - Halal style - at an innovative training event on 8th May in Weymouth.

The seminar aimed to broaden the cultural awareness of firms coming into contact with overseas visitors and foreign companies.

Apprentices studying for Professional Cookery NVQ Level 2 and 3 and who work for local hotels and pubs learned how to prepare and cook Halal food. Their bosses and other employers engaged in hospitality and tourism, attended a training session the same day to learn about Islamic culture, the opportunities this presents and what the Halal catering needs are in the kitchen for equipment and ingredients.

The Diet and Culture training day was delivered by Paragon and ITE Training Group with help from Said Lakehal, a RLN SW language volunteer, and Neil Payne who has recently set up a Halal butchery business. The event was funded by the Learning and Skills Council.
