Winners of this year’s European Award for Languages are to be honoured at a prize-giving ceremony at the Millennium stadium, Cardiff on Tuesday 20 November. Fifteen outstanding language initiatives are to receive the EU award for their innovative approach to developing language skills in the UK. Projects highly commended for their work will also be recognised on the day.

John Griffiths, Deputy Minister for Skills, Welsh Assembly Government will congratulate the winners and guests will be treated to a performance by members of Ealing-based Questors Youth Theatre. The theatre group receives an Award for its French-language play, Cogner au plafond, inspired by the 2005 Paris riots.

Following the presentation of the Awards the Mary Glasgow Language Trust will announce the winner of its annual award of £2,000. There will also be an exhibition of the winning projects.

Isabella Moore, Director of CILT, the National Centre for Languages said, ‘The prize-giving ceremony gives us the opportunity to publicly celebrate the achievements of this year’s winners in engaging people of all ages in language learning. We are pleased to hold the celebration in Wales for the first time and I have no doubt the winners will thoroughly enjoy their time at this wonderful venue’.
