Conway Stewart is a long established manufacturer of luxury pens. Its core market is the USA, but it is also looking to export across the EU, the Middle East, China and Japan.

Since early 2007 Conway Stewart has used specialist business translation services recommended by RLNSW for its website materials and business cards. Managing Director Glenn Jones has also decided to start learning Mandarin, the RLN having been able to find him a native-speaker who lived very close to his home in Cornwall.

Glenn Jones said: “We see good customer communications as essential to our exporting success. With help from the RLNSW we have been able to offer short term work to Plymouth’s international students. By selecting, training and equipping native speakers with mobile phones we have been able to improve the communications between our office and clients.”

The company recruited speakers of Arabic, Cantonese, French, Russian, Mandarin, Spanish and Portuguese. This meant that customers could speak to someone in their own language and the company could then follow up the initial contact. This has worked extremely well and has contributed towards their immediate expansion plans.
