These include thermal drying solutions, control and process systems, waste water treatment and process systems, waste water treatment and process instrumentation solutions for clients in the waste, timber, municipal and agricultural sectors.

The RLN met Scopevital in August 2005 at the briefing event for a trade visit to Latvia and Lithuania . Philada Rogers RLN advisor for Dorset and Wiltshire said “The meeting enabled us to introduce them to another Portland business (Verne recruitment) sourcing skilled staff from Latvia for UK/EU companies”.

The RLN SW then engaged with Scopevital during the trade visit in October 2005. Scopevital had had the foresight to translate their website into Russian prior to the visit, using a Bradford based translation agency following an internet search, and used local interpreters for some meetings provided by the UKT+I team based in Riga and Vilnius.

Tony Hakes, Managing Director of Scopevital said: “The language and business culture guides provided by the RLN for the Baltic trade visit were very useful, and it was fun to try the local languages. It helped us build an immediate rapport with potential new clients. We hadn’t realised that language was such a hot issue in those countries, and we have since commissioned a further translation of the website into Lithuanian using the BLIS database and RLN contacts. We have made several good contacts and hope to do business there in the future”.

Since then, Scopevital have continued to research new markets and are currently in negotiations for contracts in France and Greece. Tony Hakes had expressed an interest in taking part in an innovative intensive French language course during the visit to the Baltic States and so he was one of the five participants in the System D pilot project (see news item on the project).

James Piriou, RLN advisor for Dorset and Wiltshire said: “Tony was a willing and active participant. His confidence and understanding grew exponentially and he has requested further assistance with language learning via the System D intensive method. I hope we will be able to continue working closely together and offer him a bespoke service for his business.”
